Key issues for lawmakers in Topeka, Jefferson City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- This week’s edition of “4 The People” checks in on our state capitols.

In Jefferson City, lawmakers are in session with the clock ticking down to adjournment at 6 p.m., May 17. From initiative petition reform to the House Ethics Committee investigation into Speaker Dean Plocher, Jason Hancock of the Missouri Independent brings us up to speed on where things stand in the Missouri Legislature.

Then, as Kansas lawmakers are in recess until the wrap-up session begins April 26, Brad Cooper of the Sunflower State Journal has the latest on what to look for headed into the final days of the 2024 session, including Medicaid expansion and the governor’s veto of a ban on gender affirming procedures for minors.
